Karl-Heinz Frankl
Karl-Heinz Frankl (born December 12, 1938 in Zwettl , † December 28, 2019 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic priest , church historian , diocesan archivist and vicar general of the diocese of Gurk .
Life
After graduation in 1956 at Bundesrealgymnasium in Villach studied Frankl 1956-1962 theology at the Philosophy and Theology Diocesan College in Klagenfurt . After his ordination in 1962 in Klagenfurt, he worked as a chaplain in Obervellach for a year . He then taught religion for two years at vocational schools in Klagenfurt until he studied church history at the Pontifical Gregorian University from 1965 to 1967 . In 1970 he received his doctorate in theology with a dissertation on the "late medieval indulgences" from the church historian Karl Amon at the University of Graz .
From 1967 to 1968 he was deputy rector of the Episcopal Education Center in St. Georgen am Längsee and then worked from 1969 to 1971 as a subregens at the Episcopal Seminary in Klagenfurt and from 1971 to 1975 as Vice Rector at the Seminary of the Gurk diocese in Salzburg. From 1977 to 2015 he was a diocesan archivist and built a new building for the archive and was able to initiate the reorganization of the diocesan archiving system. Frankl had been a member of the Episcopal Consistory and the Gurk Cathedral Chapter since 1985 . Bishop Egon Kapellari appointed him Vicar General of the Diocese of Gurk in 1985, until he was replaced in 1993 by Olaf Colerus-Geldern .
In 1977 he was appointed professor of church history at the Pedagogical Academy in Klagenfurt. From 1993 to 2005 he was full professor for church history at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna . Frankl's main teaching and research area was the Patriarchate of Aquileia and the Carinthian church history as well as the ecclesiastical social and religious everyday history. One focus was research on the Vienna Priest College St. Augustin ( Frintaneum ), which from 1816 to 1918 was an imperial institution for the education of the ecclesiastical elite of the Danube monarchy.
1991 was a founding member and from 1991 to 2017 first prior for the Klagenfurt Commandery of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . In 2017 Alois Schwarz , Bishop of Gurk-Klagenfurt, succeeded him. Since November 11, 1975 he was a member of the Görres Society .
