The Peraugymnasium is a lower and upper level high school in the Villach district of Perau . With around 1200 students and 110 teachers, it is the second largest and oldest in Villach .
history
Construction of the grammar school began in 1869. The west wing of the building was completed in 1872, but lessons had already started in a provisionally set up class in an inn. Until 1909, the Peraugymnasium was a pure boys' grammar school. When girls were admitted to classes, their number increased significantly within a few years, after which the high school had to be expanded. The east wing that was built was only available as a primary and special school until 1961 . In that year the east wing was converted into a girls' high school. In 1978 the building was expanded again due to lack of space; it got a gym and a sports facility. During a further renovation in 1982, construction work started on October 4, which devastated parts of the school. In 1984/85 the construction of the entire south wing was completed. The school now had its characteristic courtyard.
In 2008/09 an additional wing was created again due to lack of space. A black glass cube was created in the inner courtyard to symbolize modernization and a contrast to the old building. The Peraugymnasium now has six new classrooms and a common room. In the course of construction, minor modernizations are still being carried out throughout the school, the gymnasiums are being renewed and the entire listed facade is being restored.
In the 2018/2019 school year, the grammar school celebrates the 150th anniversary of the school. Several events are being planned for this purpose, which will culminate in a party in the school's courtyard, at which the Austrian philosopher Konrad Paul Liessmann will appear as the guest of honor and speaker.
