Harald Rindler (born November 4, 1948 in Techendorf , Weissensee municipality in Carinthia ) is an Austrian mathematician and university professor of mathematics .

Life

Harald Rindler attended elementary school in Techendorf and then the Bundesrealgymnasium Villach, where he graduated with honors in 1967 . He then did military service as a one-year volunteer for a period of 13 months.

In the winter semester 1968/69 he began studying mathematics and physics at the University of Vienna , which he supplemented with partial studies in philosophy , history , theology , music and Russian .

In 1972 he received his doctorate in philosophy with Johann Cigler on topics from ergodic theory . In 1976 he was appointed university lecturer in mathematics, and Harald Rindler has been a university professor since 1980. In 1988 he was appointed head of the Institute for Mathematics at the University of Vienna. From 2004 to 2016 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics.
