Johann Cigler

Johann Cigler (born May 18, 1937 in Vienna ) is an Austrian mathematician and former professor at the University of Vienna .

Life

Johann Cigler attended the humanistic grammar school in Hollabrunn from 1947 to 1955 . Between 1955 and 1959 he studied mathematics and physics at the University of Vienna and wrote his dissertation under Edmund Hlawka . In 1960 he received his doctorate in philosophy ( sub auspiciis praesidentis ).

From 1959 to 1961 he was employed as a research assistant at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . He then worked until 1964 as assistant to Leopold Butterer at the University of Vienna, where he completed his habilitation in 1964 . From 1964 to 1970 he was Hoogleraar in the Abstract Analysis at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen . Since 1970 Cigler was a full professor of mathematics at the University of Vienna. Since 1994 he has been a real member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . From 1971 to 1983 and 2002 to 2011 he was editor of the monthly mathematics magazine . Johann Cigler retired on October 1, 2005 and received his golden doctoral degree on January 20, 2010 .

Johann Cigler is married and has two daughters.
