Martin Hitz

Martin Hitz (born October 4, 1959 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian computer scientist and university professor.

Life

After graduating from the Peraugymnasium in Villach in 1978, Hitz studied computer science at the Vienna University of Technology , graduated in 1982 and obtained his doctorate in technical sciences in 1989. From 1982 to 1996 he was assistant to Günther Vinek at the Institute for Statistics and Computer Science at the University of Vienna and from 1996 to 2000 (after completing his habilitation in computer science in 1996) Associate Professor at the University of Vienna. Between 1987 and 1989 he spent several research stays at the Dipartimento di Elettronica of the Politecnico di Milano , and from 1990 to 1991 a year as a Schrödinger fellow of the FWF at the Computer Science Department of the University of Ottawa . In 1997, Hitz was visiting professor at the University of Linz , and in 1997 and 1998 at the Technical University of Carinthia in Klagenfurt.

On May 1st, 2000, he accepted a call to the chair for interactive systems at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt , where he is a university professor. From 2001 to 2006 he was Vice Rector, after which he prepared the establishment of the Faculty of Technical Sciences as the founding commissioner, which he headed as Dean from January 1, 2007 to May 10, 2012. Hitz resigned from the Dean's office when, following the recall of Rector Heinrich C. Mayr, he was again appointed to the Rector's office as Vice Rector. He has been involved in the management and development of the university since 2001.

Martin Hitz initially worked in the fields of information systems , data modeling , software reuse, software metrics , and interactive simulation environments. At the Alpen-Adria-Universität he founded the Interactive Systems working group , which deals with HCI , non-classic user interfaces and usability .
