Heinrich Christian Mayr (born February 1, 1948 in Miesbach ) is a German computer scientist and emeritus professor at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt , where he was rector from 2006 to 2012.

Life

Mayr attended the Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich , the Karlsgymnasium Munich-Pasing and the Bismarck-Gymnasium Karlsruhe , which he graduated from high school in 1966. After his military service, he studied computer science at the University of Karlsruhe and completed his diploma studies in Grenoble in 1972 , where he also received his doctorate in 1975 . From 1975 to 1983 he was a university assistant at the University of Karlsruhe and then until 1990 in a leading position in business.

From 1990 until his retirement in 2016 he was full professor at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt; from 1994 to 2000 and from 2004 to 2006 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Computer Science. He was visiting professor at various universities in Germany, New Zealand, Spain and the Ukraine.

In May 2001 he received an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Kharkiv , Ukraine , for “ his outstanding achievements in the theory and practice of information systems and technologies, his considerable personal contribution to the dissemination of progressive scientific ideas and the successful development of collaboration between universities ”.

In 2008 he was made a Fellow of the Society for Computer Science.

Mayr was Rector of the University of Klagenfurt from April 2006 to April 2012 . In autumn 2011, the University Council initiated a dismissal procedure due to a massive loss of confidence, after Mayr, in the opinion of the control body, exceeded his competencies in decisions regarding a leisure facility at the university and repeatedly violated the four-eyes principle . The process was not supported in this form by the Senate, a body made up of professors and staff employed at the university. Various attempts at mediation were unsuccessful. In March 2012, the responsible Ministry of Science judged the University Council's approach to be in conformity with the law insofar as “there are no indications of supervisory intervention in accordance with Section 45 (3) UG.” However, this does not mean “that in the matter itself the Federal Ministry is of the opinion of the The University Council then states that the stated reasons for dismissal exist or that dismissal would be justified. ”On March 28, 2012, the University Senate again dealt with the dismissal procedure and, with a large majority, stated that it was based on its knowledge of March 28, 2012. do not recognize any facts that have been sufficiently proven and at the same time serious enough to justify the far-reaching step of dismissing the rector. Since the dismissal was not supported by the Senate, it was carried out by the University Council “ex officio”. Mayr, however, lodged a complaint with the Administrative Court in summer 2012 . On October 28, 2015, he revoked the notice of dismissal "due to illegality due to violation of procedural regulations". The University Council did not want to hear the Vice Rectors as witnesses who could have confirmed whether the four-eyes principle was violated or not.

In October 2012 Mayr was appointed Honored Professor of Sciences “ for outstanding achievements in the field of education and science, formidable contribution into the University development ” by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport and by the State University of Kherson, Ukraine . In April 2013 he received the Golden Medal of the City of Klagenfurt . In October 2013 he was named an ER Fellow at the 32nd International Conference on Conceptual Modeling in Hong Kong.

In May 2013 Mayr was appointed chairman of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Klagenfurt by the Klagenfurt municipal council at the suggestion of mayor Christian Scheider . In spring 2015 he offered the new mayor Maria-Luise Mathiaschitz his resignation; The successor was the industrial manager Michael Junghans.

In September 2016 he was awarded the Great Medal of Honor by the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce.
