Gerhard Köfer

Gerhard Köfer (born February 11, 1961 in Spittal an der Drau , Carinthia ) is an Austrian politician (currently TK , previously TS or SPÖ ). From 2013 to 2018 he was regional councilor in the Carinthian regional government . He is the regional party leader of Team Carinthia and has been a member of the Carinthian state parliament since April 12, 2018 .

From 2006 to 2012 he was a member of the SPÖ National Council . From 1997 to 2013 he was mayor of his hometown Spittal an der Drau .

education

Köfer attended elementary school from 1967 to 1971. After graduating from business school, he graduated from high school . He then worked as a bank clerk and gendarmerie officer.

Political career

From 1991 to 1997 Köfer was a member of the city council of Spittal an der Drau. In 1997 he was directly elected mayor of Spittal for the first time . From 2004 to 2006 he was a member of the Carinthian state parliament . From October 30, 2006 he represented the SPÖ in the National Council and was elected the top candidate of the SPÖ Carinthia for the early National Council election in Austria in 2008 . With a term of 16 years he was the long serving mayor of Spittal an der Drau.

In August 2012, Köfer resigned from the SPÖ and the SPÖ parliamentary club and became the first member of the Stronach team, which was then only intended to be founded.

Köfer was the first regional party leader of the Stronach team for Carinthia . In the Carinthian state election on March 3, 2013, he acted as its top candidate. The party achieved 11.18% and four seats in the state parliament when it first appeared.

From March 28, 2013 to April 12, 2018, Köfer was State Councilor for Road Construction and Fisheries in the State Government of Kaiser I in Carinthia .

On October 2, 2013, Köfer was deposed as state party chairman and the entire state party executive by Frank Stronach.

In November 2016, Köfer was again the state party chairman of the party now known as “Free Team Carinthia - List Gerhard Köfer”, replacing Gerhard Klocker .

Conviction for abuse of office

In February 2014 the public prosecutor brought charges against Köfer and the entire local council at the time in connection with the construction of a cell phone mast in Spittal an der Drau for abuse of office. The building application should not have been rejected due to a lack of jurisdiction, was the allegation. Köfer justified his act with the fact that he wanted to prevent damage to health from the neighbors. On March 9, 2016, Köfer was sentenced to a conditional prison term of seven months for abuse of office. The Supreme Court dismissed the nullity appeal. The judgment is therefore final.

Private

Gerhard Köfer is married for the second time and has a son and a daughter.

Others

As a sideline, Köfer also worked as an energy specialist . The proceeds from this sideline went to the Spittaler Children's Fund founded by Köfer . He claims to have discovered his talent as an energetic in himself by the end of 2010. He could "contribute to the self-healing of the body" by "opening blockages in others". He has “hands like starter cables”. In an interview with the daily newspaper Kurier , Köfer said in 2014 that he might “work exclusively as an energetic specialist at some point in the distant future”. As an energetic, he treated Frank Stronach's horses in Ebreichsdorf , which established contact with Stronach and his party.
