politics

Lobnig was a member of the city council of the municipality of Völkermarkt between 1997 and 2001 and entered the state parliament on April 8, 1999 as a representative of the FPÖ. Between 1999 and 2004 Lobnig was also a substitute member of the government for the first deputy governor, Karl Pfeifenberger . Lobnig is also the area spokesman for the Freedom State Parliament Club for the issues of ethnic groups and the budget.

In the course of the split in the FPÖ, Lobnig switched to the BZÖ, like almost all of the Carinthian state parliament members. From October 1997 he was FPÖ district party chairman in the Völkermarkt district and subsequently also carried out this function for the BZÖ. On December 16, 2009, the Carinthian BZÖ split off from the Federal BZÖ and, as the FPK, sought close cooperation with the FPÖ.

In 2009 Lobnig came under fire after he made space in the Landhaus-Galerie available for an exhibition that glorified the Stalinist regime of North Korea in partly anti-Semitic statements.

In the context of the letter survey of the Carinthian population on the " town sign compromise " achieved in 2011, Lobnig said that the vote corresponds to the choice between plague and cholera.
