The Xingjiao Temple (兴 教 寺; Pinyin : Xīngjiào Sì) is a Buddhist temple in Xi'an , the capital of the Chinese province of Shaanxi . It is located in Shaoling Yuan 少陵 原 ( Shequ杜 曲 镇Township ), Chang'an District, 20 kilometers south of the city. The temple was built under Gaozong in 669 and was one of the eight famous temples of Fanchuan樊川 during the Tang Dynasty .

The remains of the famous Buddhist pilgrim monk and translator Xuanzang (玄奘; 603–664) are kept in its five-storey dagoba / pagoda from the Tang Dynasty . There are also two smaller stupas (舍利塔 shèlìtǎ) for his students Kuiji窥基 and Yuance圆 测.

The Tang emperor Suzong had given the stupa of Xuanzang the name "Xingjiao", which is why the temple that was built afterwards was also called "Xingjiao". Suzong's personal dedication can still be read on the stupa today.

The dagoba / pagoda / stupa of the Xingjiao Temple (Xingjiao si ta 兴 教 寺塔) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (1-67) since 1961 .

The temple is one of the national focus temples of Buddhism in Han Chinese areas . Since 2014 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site entitled Silk Roads: the road network of the Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor .
