Tang Suzong ( 唐 肅宗  /  唐 肃宗 , Táng Sùzōng , born as 李亨 , Lǐ Hēng , * 711 ; † 762 ) was Chinese emperor of the Tang Dynasty from 756 to 762 , and the Xingjiao Temple was named after his calligraphy .

Suzong was the son and successor of Emperor Xuanzong . He came to power when Xuanzong abdicated in the course of the An Lushan Uprising in 756 and fled to Sichuan . During the entire period of his reign, Suzong was busy putting down the insurrection, which could only be completely stifled after his death. Under Suzong the court eunuchs rose in power. The eunuch Li Fuguo in particular became a decisive figure; he controlled the military and finance. His position of power became so great that he dared to assassinate the Empress Zhang. Suzong died of heart problems shortly after the attack. Daizong , who had Li Fuguo executed, succeeded him in the imperial office .
