Winfried Bernward Müller

Winfried Bernward Müller (born February 19, 1944 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian mathematician . From 1999 to 2003 he was rector of the University of Klagenfurt .

Life

Winfried Bernward Müller studied after graduating from the University of Vienna . In 1967 he received his doctorate there with a dissertation on the subject of endomorphism systems with product and chain rules , the doctoral supervisor was Wilfried Nöbauer .

From 1971 to 1973 he taught at the Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas . In 1975 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Vienna in the field of mathematics, and in 1976 he was awarded the Christian Doppler Prize . In 1977 he was appointed professor of mathematics at what was then the University of Education in Klagenfurt , where he worked until his retirement in October 2011. From 1994 to 1998 he was chairman of the senate at what is now the University of Klagenfurt. In 1999 he succeeded Willibald Dörfler as rector of the University of Klagenfurt , and in 2003 he was replaced by Günther Hödl in this position.

Research and Teaching

He held visiting professorships at the Queensland University of Technology , Monash University , the Technical University of Vienna, the University of Linz and the University of Salzburg , and research stays at the University of Tasmania and Teesside Polytechnic (England), among others . His main research interests include cryptography and applied algebra , and his doctoral students include Wilfried Meidl and Rupert Nöbauer. He published around 50 scientific mathematical papers. On behalf of the European University Association , he was involved in the evaluation of higher education institutions in Europe, South America and Africa from 2001.

In May 2017 he received his golden doctoral degree from the University of Vienna.
