Career

Federrath completed his studies in computer science at the Technical University of Dresden in 1999 with a doctorate on "technical data protection and protection against localization in mobile networks, in particular on procedures that protect against observation by mobile network operators". He then worked from 1999 to 2000 as a visiting researcher at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley and from 2000 to 2003 as senior research assistant and deputy professor at the Department of Computer Science at the Free University of Berlin . Hannes Federrath has been President of the Society for Computer Science since 2018 .

research

In 2016, Federrath developed the web anonymizer software JonDo to protect anonymity and unobservability on the Internet. The program was developed as an alternative to the well-known Tor network with funding from the BMBF and the DFG .

Furthermore, Federrath provided research work in the field of automotive security and research and expert work in the field of security management. Among other things, he examined the security management processes of the telematics infrastructure of the electronic health card.
