Paul Oberhammer (* 1965 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian lawyer and university professor . Oberhammer is currently Professor of Civil Procedure Law and Dean at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna .

Life

Paul Oberhammer was born in 1965 in the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck and grew up in Carinthia . Following the completion of the compulsory schools studied Oberhammer at the University of Vienna Law . In 1991 he completed his studies as a Master of Law and wrote his dissertation followed in 1992 with a thesis on the termination of leases and the subsequent promotion to Doctor of Law . In 1997 he completed his habilitation at the same university.

Subsequently, Oberhammer took over professorships at the German universities of Greifswald and Halle, before he accepted a position as a full professor for civil law, civil procedural law and commercial law at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in 2001 . In 2003 he moved to Switzerland , where he followed the call of the University of Zurich , where he held the chair for Swiss and international civil procedure law, debt collection and bankruptcy law as well as private and commercial law. Oberhammer only returned to Vienna in 2011, where he accepted a professorship for civil procedural law at the University of Vienna, his old training facility. Since 2012 he has also been a permanent visiting professor at the University of St. Gallen . On October 1, 2014, Oberhammer took over the position of Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna from his predecessor emeritus Heinz Mayer .

In addition to his work in an academic environment, Paul Oberhammer is admitted to the bar at the Hanseatic Bar Association in Hamburg and has been of counsel at the law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr in London since 2011 .
