General

Perau lies elongated directly on the Drau . Perau is derived from a meadow that used to exist in the area. Perau lies at an altitude of approx. 500  m above sea level. A. According to the city's statistical yearbook (2011), 3214 people live in Perau.

The Ossiacherzeile , Villach's main thoroughfare, runs through this district. A Volkshaus is located on Burgenlandstrasse. Events take place here regularly.

Worth seeing and meaning

Hall of the gymnastics club

The Peraugymnasium , a Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium , was founded in 1864 and is housed in a building from the 19th century.

The district court of Villach and the Schillerpark with a relief of Carinthia are located in Perau .

The oldest gym in Villach is located in Gerbergasse. The gymnastics club was founded in 1867.

At the Draubrücke is the parish church Zum hl. Kreuz , a well-known baroque church . Opposite the church is the rectory.

Behind the church, on the road to Maria Gail , there is the “Im Kremlin” cultural center and the associated Kremlin Court Theater - the smallest theater in the world.

Perau volunteer fire brigade

The Perau volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1896 and a fire station was built on the Harpfe . The fire station, which was newly built in the center of the village in 1925, was so badly damaged by a large flood in 1966 that a new building was completed in 1982. In 1997 the Perau volunteer fire brigade celebrated its 100th anniversary. Today the Perau volunteer fire brigade is equipped with two fire engines.

The new Draubrücke near St. Agathen

St. Agathen is a small village directly on the Drau. For a long time the village was difficult to access because it is located at the confluence of the Drava and Gail rivers . Since the construction of the so-called industrial area and industrial development Villach (GAV), a tangent, in 2005, the place is easier to reach with a new bridge over the Drau.
