Walter "Schani" Skocik (born September 6, 1940 in Schwechat or Wienerherberg ) is a former Austrian football player and coach . His learned profession is a machine fitter .

Player career

Skocik began his career as a midfielder with Rapid Vienna , where he also celebrated his greatest successes. For this club he played 222 competitive games in 11 years and scored 40 goals. With Rapid he was four times Austrian champion (1960, 1964, 1967 and 1968) and three times Austrian cup winner (1961, 1968, 1969). Skocik played for Rapid 28 times in the European Cup and scored two goals. He reached the semi-finals of the championship cup with Rapid 1961 . In 1969 he moved to SV Wattens and then to SSW Innsbruck . In 1973 Skocik went to Switzerland for FC Friborg and in 1974 joined FC Vorarlberg .

Coaching career

1974 Skocik took over the SW Bregenz as a player- coach before he switched to Rapid in 1979, where he was replaced by Rudi Nuske in the 1981/82 season after the 26th round (0: 3 on March 27 in Innsbruck). In the 1982/83 season he was in charge of UD Las Palmas . In the 1984/85 season he was Greek champion with PAOK .
