Hubert Peterka (born November 19, 1908 in Ebergassing ; † November 12, 1976 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mountaineer and author of Alpine Club guides .

In his life, Hubert Peterka has made more than 500 first ascents in the Eastern Alps (such as Gesäuse , Dachstein Mountains and Hohe Tauern ) and has made numerous early repetitions of difficult tours in the Alps. He was also active outside of the Alps, for example in the Caucasus . Along with Fritz Herrmann , Fritz Proksch and Hans Schwanda, Willi End was one of Peterka's most important rope companions .

Peterka wrote articles for alpine magazines and was the author of important area guides, for example for the Peilstein , the Glockner , Granatspitz , Venediger groups or the Lienz Dolomites . He wrote many of these guides with Willi End.

“After the Second World War, the mountaineering group of the ÖGV decided to revise the Peilstein climbing guide published in 1928 by Leopold Landl. Hubert Peterka as the author had a very specific idea of this revision: It should be a perfect guide ... “Whatever new tours have to be done on the Peilstein, we do it ourselves so that Mr. Gschisti or Gschasti doesn't make a first ascent afterwards and our guide is never up to date! "he said."

Hubert Peterka was an employee of the Austrian Mountain Association , a section of the OeAV , until 1961 .
