The Glockner Group is a mountain group of the central Eastern Alps and is located in the middle part of the Hohe Tauern in the course of the main Alpine ridge .

The Glockner Group is located in Austria in the federal states of Salzburg , Tyrol and Carinthia . The three federal states collide on the summit of the Eiskögele ( 3423  m above sea level ).

The highest peak of the Glockner group and at the same time the highest peak in Austria is the Großglockner ( 3798  m above sea level ), which gives the mountain group its name. Major parts of the Glockner Group belong to the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park . The Pasterze , the largest glacier in Austria, can also be found in the Glockner Group .

The boundaries of the Glockner group are defined as follows: Salzach from Uttendorf to Taxenbach; Rauriser valley to Wörth; Seidlwinkltal; Hochtor ( Grossglockner High Alpine Road ); Tauernbach; Möll to the confluence with Moosbach; Moosbach; Peischlachtörl; Peischlachbach; Kals am Großglockner ; Kalser Bach; Dorfer Valley; Dorfer Lake; Kalser Tauern ; Weisssee; Weißenbach; Grünsee; Enzingerboden; Stubachtal; Uttendorf .

Along with the Ankogelgroup , the Goldberg Group , the Schober Group , the Kreuzeckgruppe which Granatspitzgruppe , the Venice Group , the Villgraten mountains and Rieserfernergruppe the Glockner group is the largest group of Hohen Tauern .

tourism

The area is well developed for tourists: the Großglockner High Alpine Road (and its detour to Franz-Josefs-Höhe ), the road from Uttendorf to Enzingerboden, the bus transfers to the reservoirs near Kaprun and the toll road from Kals am Großglockner to Lucknerhaus make it possible to join to penetrate far into the mountains by car and public transport . Energy generation

The Austrian energy industry and ÖBB use the water from the Glockner Group to generate electricity at the Kaprun , Franz-Josefs-Höhe (Margaritze reservoir) and Enzingerboden (Weißsee, Tauernmoossee) locations .
