The Gamsspitze (also: Gamskopf ) is a 3157 m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Glockner group in East Tyrol . The first ascent of the summit took place on August 12, 1920 by crossing from Gramul and over the Upper Southwest Ridge.

The Gamsspitze is located in the south of the Glockner Group in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park and in the northeast of the municipality of Kals am Großglockner . It lies between the Gramul ( 3276 m above sea level ) in the northeast and the Salzkogel ( 2986 m above sea level ) in the southwest, whereby the Gamsspitze is separated from the Salzkogel by the Obere Fruschnitzscharte ( 2939 m above sea level ). The north face of the Gamsspitze drops steeply to the Fruschnitzkees , in the east is the Teischnitzkees . To the southeast of the Gamsspitze lies the head of the Teischnitz valley ( Finsteres Tal ). The closest refuges are the Kalser Tauernhaus in the Kalser Dorfertal to the west and the Stüdlhütte to the east, high above the Teischnitzbach valley .
Promotion opportunities
The normal route to the Gamsspitze leads from the road to the Moaralm in the Kalser valley , initially on the footpath into the Teischnitz valley . After the Pfiangalm, the further ascent runs pathless along the Teischnitzbach to below the southern flank of the Gamsspitze. The final ascent takes place over steep flanks with little climbing to the summit ( I ). Alternatively, the chamois tip can be made through the transition from Gramul ( II ) or the Upper Southwest Ridge ( II ).
