The Kalser Tauernhaus is an Alpine Club hut belonging to the Mönchengladbach section of the German Alpine Club .
The hut is located in the Glockner group in the Dorfertal, which marks the transition to the Granatspitz group west of the Großglockner . The hut is a 1st category shelter and is managed from the beginning of June to mid-October (depending on the weather). A winter room is available for the rest of the year.
history
The hut was built between 1928 and 1930 by the Kals mountain guides as a base for Glockner tourists. The inauguration ceremony took place on June 28, 1931.
In 1962, the Mönchengladbach Section took over and renovated the hut. In 1986 the extension with new washing and sanitary rooms was completed. In the 1970s and 80s, the future of the hut was uncertain for a long time, as the Austrian energy industry had plans to dam the Dorfertal in the area of the gorge and to use the water from the resulting reservoir to generate electricity.
Most recently, the hut was equipped with a fully biological sewage treatment plant , a hydropower plant for power supply and a winter room.
The supply of Kals Tauern house takes place in the conventional way by car, as to Kals Tauernhaus a locked for public transport service road exists.
Approach
The approach to the Kalser Tauernhaus is from the Kalser hamlet Taurer ( 1521 m , there parking and bus stop) through the gorge of the Dorferbach and the extensive valley floor of the Dorfertal in 1½ hours.
An alternative approach starts at the Moar-Alm restaurant ( 1793 m ), which can be reached by car from Kals-Taurer via a mountain road. From there via the "stairs" descent ( surefootedness required) into the Dorfertal and also in a total of 1½ hours to the hut.
