BW

Unterpeischlach is a place ( fraction ) of the municipality of Kals am Großglockner . According to the 2001 census, the town on the Isel has 183 inhabitants.

geography

Unterpeischlach lies at an altitude of 760 m (TIWAG power plant) on the left bank of the Iseltal and has the lowest point in the municipality of Kals am Großglockner. Most of the 49 houses (2004) in the village are spread over two smaller settlements. The center of the village is a settlement with a chapel on the right bank of the Kalserbach stream below the gorge exit. TIWAG's Kalserbach power plant is located southeast of this settlement, to which another part of the settlement adjoins in the southeast.

history

The origins of the settlement name of Unterpeischlach come from the Slavic language . The village was first mentioned in documents in 1329 as Peuschler and in 1428 as Pünschlarn . The name is derived from the Old Slovene pišljah ( locative to pyl '(an) e ) and means "place where the wind blows" (Slavic pyxati for "to blow", "to blow").

For a long time Unterpeischlach and Oberpeischlach formed a group of Kals, which in 1754 had a total of 14 houses and 142 residents. Unterpeischlach has been run as a separate parliamentary group since 1910. In 1809 Unterpeischlach became the scene of the Peace of Unterpeischlach of the same name . In 1809, under the leadership of the neighboring Matreier, the Iseltaler Schützen raised an army of around 900 men to stop the Napoleonic troops. However, through the mediation of the Lienz councilors, an armistice was concluded, which was signed by the “landlord” in Unterpeischlach.

Due to the large distance to the main town of Ködnitz , other parishes also play a role for Unterpeischlach in the church and educational sector. The Unterpeischlach chapel, for example, belongs to the parish of St. Johann im Walde . The elementary school students west of the Kalserbach in turn attend the elementary school in Huben (municipality of Matrei in Osttirol), those children east of the Kalserbach attend the elementary school in Sankt Johann im Walde. All secondary school students from Unterpeischlach, however, are enrolled in Kals.

Important structures

Chapel of the "Seven Sorrows of Mary"

The chapel of Unterpeischlach for the " Seven Sorrows of Mary " was built on the basis of a pledge during the First World War and destroyed during the great flood of 1966 by the Kalserbach. The new building was based on plans by Paul Illmer. Both the destruction and the reconstruction of the building were immortalized on the exterior fresco of the chapel.

Kalserbach power plant

Unterpeischlach has since 1949/50 a hydropower plant of the TIWAG which is fed by the water of Kalserbachs. The water required is collected at Staniska and fed through a 2.6 km long tunnel into the day storage facility on the Oblasberg. From the Oblasberg the water finally falls over a height of 270 meters to the turbine house in the Iseltal, whose turbines have an output of 11.7 megawatts.
