history
The origins of the Oberpeischlach settlement name come from the Slavic language . The village was first mentioned in documents in 1329 as Peuschler and in 1428 as Pünschlarn . The name is derived from the old Slovene pišljah ( locative to pyl '(an) e ) and means "place where the wind blows" (Slavic pyxati for "to blow" or "blow").
In August 1616 lumberjacks of the Glaureter trades caused a forest fire by carelessness in a dry period. The major fire destroyed large areas of forest between Oberpeischlach and Arnig in eight days . As a result, the lack of protective forest could not prevent frequent mudslides and avalanches. Due to its location, Oberpeischlach was always oriented towards the Iseltal. With the main town of Ködnitz, Oberpeischlach could only be reached by a difficult cart path. It was not until 1926 that Oberpeischlach and the other fractions of the municipality of Kals were connected to Iseltalstrasse by a car road. Oberpeischlach and Unterpeischlach formed a group of Kals for a long time , which in 1754 had a total of 14 houses and 142 residents. Since 1910, both factions have been run separately. In 1910 Oberpeischlach got its own school house, which had a classroom and a teacher's apartment. After the school was rebuilt in the main town of Ködnitz, the elementary school in Oberpeischlach was closed in the 1971/72 school year.
