Hans Schwanda

Hans Schwanda (born August 3, 1904 in Vienna ; † June 25, 1983 ibid) was an Austrian alpinist and non-fiction author on mountain and ski tours.

Life

As the first Austrian after the end of the war in 1945, Hans Schwanda organized and led a high mountain expedition to the Caucasus , with which he also contributed to an east-west international understanding on a mountaineering level. For his achievements he received the Silver Merit of the Republic of Austria .

In 1949 he founded a specialty shop for traditional mountain sports (including ski touring ) and weatherproof clothing in the center of Vienna , in which he continued to work well into old age.

Schwanda wrote several books about mountain and ski tours, as well as many reports and stories about them.
