history

The Alpine Club Mountain Club was founded in 1890 by the German Hugo Gerbers (born March 3, 1845 in Wesel ; † June 13, 1918 in Aflenz ) under the name of Niederösterreichischer Gebirgsverein (founding meeting: March 25, 1890) and had its first club restaurant in Brandl's Gasthaus “ Zum rothen Haus ” in the ninth district of Vienna , Alsergrund , Garelligasse  3. The Austrian Mountain Association had had an Aryan paragraph in its statutes since August 1920 , but, according to its own statements, had been on a “German-Aryan basis” for decades before and did not accept any Jews. This dark chapter in the history of the association was dealt with and the result was the scientifically accessible archive of the association. In 1925 a working group was formed with the Austrian Tourist Club.

In 1928, a four-story private house was acquired on Lerchenfelder Strasse in Vienna-Josefstadt , which still serves as the club's headquarters today.

In 1930 it joined the German and Austrian Alpine Association , which was transferred to the German Alpine Association on March 14, 1938 . After the end of the Second World War , the Austrian Mountain Association was spun off from the German Alpine Association.

In 1955 the Austrian Mountain Association (on January 1, 1955) joined the umbrella organization, the Austrian Alpine Association , as a branch. Contract dated June 8, 1954. He is granted special rights, such as using his own logo or association symbol.
