The Peilsteinhaus is a category II refuge of the Austrian Mountain Association . It is located at the summit of the 716 meter high Peilstein in the Vienna Woods .
Originally built privately as an inn in 1923, it was bought in 1927 by the Austrian Mountain Association, a section of the Austrian Alpine Association since 1955 , and rebuilt and expanded several times. In 2013, a 12 m high observation tower was built on the east side , which also serves as a fire escape for the upper and top floors of the house.

On the Peilstein there are over 800 climbing routes with levels of difficulty I to XI-.
Long-distance hiking trails
The Peilsteinhaus is the first stage destination on the Vienna route of the Northern Alpine Trail and is also on the Voralpenweg .
