history

See also history of Alland .

The place was mentioned in a document in 1285.

  • According to legend, after returning from a crusade , the lord of the castle of Arnstein put his unfaithful wife - she claimed that the devil in the form of a dog had made her pregnant despite the chastity belt - in a barrel with thorns and let her roll down the castle rock. The place where the barrel with the dead came to stand was the place where the church was founded. The mysterious tombstone of the unfortunate, with the image of a dog with a lily growing out of its belly , still stands in the parish church of Alland . The pulpit of the pilgrimage church was originally located in the St. Laurentius Church in Mayerling (which was demolished in 1889) .
