The Hugo-Gerbers-Hütte is a refuge of the Austrian Mountain Association of the ÖAV in the Kreuzeck group .
location
The hut is located at an altitude of 2347 m above sea level. A. above the Zwickenberger Ochsenalm in the municipality of Oberdrauburg . The Kreuzeck-Höhenweg leads past the hut.
history
The Hugo-Gerbers-Hütte was built between 1908 and 1910. It is named after Hugo Gerbers (1845–1918), the founder of the Lower Austrian Mountain Association (Austrian Mountain Association since 1904). The builder of the hut was Veit Bernhard Oweger from Zwickenberg, the building site was provided by the “Ochsenalp” alpine cooperative in Zwickenberg, as was the construction and firewood. From 1959 to 1968 the hut was unmanaged until the Englishman Philip Tallantire saved it from deterioration. The hut is currently (2017) serviced in the summer months.
