Karl Lukan

Karl Lukan (born September 12, 1923 in Vienna ; † June 13, 2014 ibid.) Was an Austrian mountaineer, amateur archaeologist and author of over 50 books dealing with mountaineering and cultural-historical topics.

biography

As a publishing apprentice at Ed. He started his career with Hölzel . After his return from the Second World War, he initially worked as an editor at the “Wiener Bühne” and later for 20 years for Schroll Verlag and 13 years for the Austrian Federal Publishing House .

After the Second World War, he climbed the Great Zinne North Face (Comici) and the Civetta Northwest Face and was one of the first to climb the 1,600 meter high Monte Agnèr north face. In Austria he was the third man to climb the Rebitsch-Weg in the Laliderer-Spitze north face and on the Hochschwab he was the second to climb the Stangenwand south-east face. In 1948 he was the first alpinist to repeat the difficult Dachl-Rosskuppen intersection in the Gesäuse. This was first ascended in 1936 by Fritz Sikorovsky .

On the occasion of his retirement, Karl Lukan hiked with his wife Fritzi Lukan, who appears as a photographer for his books as a co-author of numerous books, from Vienna- Rodaun over 2500 kilometers to Nice - see below: Alpine walk .

Together with his wife he gave lectures in alpine clubs and adult education centers in Austria and Germany. He published his first book (“Little Man on Big Mountains”) in 1952, his 50th in 1996. On September 12, 2013, on the occasion of his 90th birthday, the two books A Piece of Heaven were presented in the Urania in Vienna and Between friendship, God bless you and Heil Hitler . Karl Lukan died on June 13, 2014 at the age of 90 in his native Vienna. He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 28, row 50, number 27).
