Family coat of arms of the Thanrädl

The Thanrädl (also Thannrädl, Thanrädel, Thonrädl, Thonradl) are an old Salzburg noble family who were elevated to the baron status in the 16th century and came to Austria under Maximilian I. The Austrian line died out in the 18th century.

history

The Thanrädl come from Salzburg and came to Austria under Maximilian I. Wolfgang I (1475–1535) was a decreed and imperial councilor and lord of Thernberg and Rechberg . His son Andreas I (1509–1566), also imperial councilor and regent of the Lower Austrian Lands in 1565, was able to expand his legacy to include Johannstein and Stranzendorf (near Rußbach ). Later they also owned Ebergassing and Wienerherberg . In the course of the clashes at the beginning of the Thirty Years WarSome Protestant members emigrated to Germany, for example in 1643 to Upper Saxony. Andreas II Thanrädel was even ostracized and lost his goods. In the 18th century the Austrian line of this noble family expired.
