The ruins of Johannstein Castle are located near Sparbach in Lower Austria ( Austria ) around eight kilometers west of Mödling at around 450 m above sea level. A.
It is not certain when the hilltop castle was built. It was first named as a ruin. Its ruins and the Sparbach zoo have belonged to the Liechtenstein family since 1809 . In the years 1995 to 2000 the existing masonry was fundamentally secured and restored .
Today the ruin is almost completely enclosed by the surrounding forest. Access is only possible during the opening times of the zoo.
