The Lindenweiher is a small lake in the Falkensee district of Finkenkrug in the state of Brandenburg .

location

The 600-meter-long and approximately 2- hectare Lindenweiher is divided into four areas: the “round part” on Rembrandtstrasse, the “long part” up to Leistikowstrasse, the “short part” up to Karl-Marx-Strasse and a small fourth Part to Feuerbachstrasse. The areas are separated by bridges. A total of 790 meters of trails leads around the pond.

history

Finkenkrug is located on the outskirts of the Havelländisches Lynx and was increasingly populated around 1900. In the course of this, a comprehensive system of ditches for water regulation was created. The lime pond was created in 1902 as part of this system and is still used today as a collector for heavy rainfall and for groundwater regulation.

In 1905 a bathing establishment was set up on the lake, but over time it turned more and more into a garbage dump. In the 1960s it was dredged in order to keep the bathing going. The water was interrupted over a length of 63 meters. The introduction of waste continued, however, in 1989 the lime pond was on the verge of ecological collapse. Therefore, the citizens' initiative Lindenweiher was founded in 1992, which has been looking after the biotope ever since .

Also in 1992 the lower nature conservation authority declared the lake a protected part of the landscape . In 1994 the network of paths around the pond was laid out, and since 2004 the four areas of the lake have been reconnected thanks to several openings.

The citizens' initiative calls for work assignments four times a year. By 2014 over 10,000 working hours had been invested. The Lindenweiherfest also takes place at regular intervals, from which all proceeds flow into the preservation of the biotope.

Flora and fauna

The Lindenweiher biotope is home to more than 220 plant species, 50 of which are assigned to a hazard category, e.g. B. the red forest bird . Some rare animal species have also been found at the linden pond : the eagle owl , the kingfisher , pond newts and grass snakes . Roach , crucian carp , perch and pike can be found in the lake . Fishing is not permitted.
