Zwölfaxing is a municipality in the Bruck an der Leitha district in Lower Austria . It has 1751 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
Zwölfaxing covers 6.76 km² and is located in the industrial district in Lower Austria. About two percent of the area of the municipality is forested. The place is traversed by the Kalten Gang , the Schwechat and the Mitterbach (Frauenbach).
Zwölfaxing consists of a single cadastral community or locality.
history
Some old finds from the time of Pannonia were often found in Zwölfaxing, the largest of which were the Avar graves, which are among the most important finds in Austria. Zwölfaxing is also one of the oldest villages in the region.
During the two world wars, the village was often bombed. Zwölfaxing belonged to Greater Vienna from 1938 to 1954 . Today there is the after 1938 by the Wehrmacht built airbase still, it was converted to Burstyn barracks.
From 1954 until its dissolution on January 1, 2017, Zwölfaxing was part of the Vienna area .

Culture and sights
- The parish church Zwölfaxing is a Roman Catholic village parish church dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity in Zwölfaxing. It was built from 1966 to 1967 according to the plans of the architect Clemens Holzmeister .

Others
Twelveaxing is known for the Burstyn armored barracks of the Austrian Armed Forces , where the 33rd tank battalion , the supply and transport company of the 3rd armored staff battalion and the armored troop school were housed. With the restructuring of the armed forces, the tank battalion was disbanded and converted into a reinforced fighter battalion. The "Rapid Deployment" task force is also housed in the barracks.
