history

Roman times

In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia .

17th century

In 1674 two further districts appear in documents - "bei den Drei Kohlstetten" and "Fellinggraben". In 1678 "in the Langseithen" is mentioned for the first time. In 1679 the names "Plattenberg" and "am Roepesberg" are found for the first time.

During the second siege of Vienna by the Turks in 1683 , the troops in Wolfsgraben seem to have caused great damage. There are reports of numerous “fire sites”, with many residents becoming victims of the war.

18th century

In the "Josephinische Fassion", which is dated June 24, 1788, we find a tax summary about the "Hüttler" in Wolfsgraben and a comprehensive description of the boundaries. Wolfsgraben was then divided into the following vineyards:

Place Wolfsgraben, Tabor, Hochbrücken, Köpferleuthen, Blaßlgraben, Fellinggraben, Wilde Laken, Hengst or 3Buchen, Sandgruben, Dreybergen, Zwickelgraben, Weidengraben, Blattenberg, Kröpfel-Eichen, Spitzwald, Waxegg, Rapersberg, Ruhland, Weidschleif, Kaiser Gemlaßfeinf Wald, Eibengraben, Laabersteig, Wurzen and Sädeln; that is 26 vineyards.
Former school building and former municipal office in 2011

The school chronicle sets the construction of the school building in the year 1790. On the basis of the building plan, however, it seems that it was built around 1776 by the then k. k. Forest Office more likely.

19th century

From 1849 the community Wolfsgraben was part of the Hietzing district , from 1868 to 1890 part of the Sechshaus district . In 1890, the Sechshaus district was divided and the new Hietzing district created. This included the judicial districts Hietzing , Purkersdorf and Neulengbach . The community Wolfsgraben was part of the Hietzing district from 1890 to 1892 , until the district capital, Hietzing , was incorporated into the city of Vienna.

From 1892 Wolfsgraben was part of the Hietzing area .

In 1896 the primary school , which had previously been a single class, was expanded to include two classes .

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the mayor, the then mayor Josef Mitterstöger provided a building site for the church. Construction began next to the old chapel , but the building material was only sufficient for the foundation and walls one meter high. When Mayor Josef Mitterstöger died in 1899, the temporary end of the building of the church was sealed.

20th century

unfinished church building, the elementary school in the background

In 1903 citizens of Vienna and Wolfsgraben founded a church building association, the first president was the Viennese textile manufacturer August Polivka. In 1906, Leopold Mitterstöger, son of the mayor, who died in 1899, expanded his father's donation, which enabled the construction of the church to continue. In the autumn of the same year the roof could be completed, but the money reserves were again exhausted.

In the same year the Wolfsgraben volunteer fire department was founded by 15 men from Wolfsgraben. The master mason Josef Ecker became the captain.

The president of the church building association, August Polivka, asked Father Anton Maria Schwartz for help with the completion of the church building. The Kalasantine order took over the completion on the condition to build a small monastery. The building was inaugurated on October 24, 1907 by Auxiliary Bishop Godfried Marschall in the presence of Father General Anton Maria Schwartz.

Completed fire station in 1931

In 1931 a new fire station (today Hauptstrasse 50) was built and handed over to its intended use.

After Austria was annexed to the German Reich in 1938, in contrast to nearby Purkersdorf , the place was not attached to Greater Vienna , but, like the surrounding communities of Gablitz , Mauerbach , Pressbaum and Tullnerbach, was assigned to the administrative district of Sankt Pölten. On January 1, 1956, the municipality was separated from the Sankt Pölten administrative district and assigned to the Vienna-Umgebung district, established in 1954 . In 1972 the elementary school was closed and the children started school in Pressbaum .

new fire station in 1987

Between 1985 and 1987 the current fire station with four community apartments was built (today Wehrer Straße 1). In order to be able to start the construction work, the fire department at the time (Herbert Lechner, Franz Kramel senior and Johann Edlinger) took out a private loan of 300,000 Schillings . Most of the house was built by fire fighters and residents of the future community apartments.

Between 1992 and 1993 a new kindergarten with three community apartments was built behind the fire station on Wehrer Strasse and officially opened by Governor Erwin Pröll on April 19, 1993.
