Prinzersdorf is a market town with 1,592 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land in Lower Austria . Sister city ​​is the Hungarian city of Letenye .

geography

Prinzersdorf is located in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria west of Sankt Pölten in the Pielach valley on the southern edge of the Dunkelsteinerwald . The area of ​​the market town covers 4.06 square kilometers. 11.37 percent of the area is forested.

history

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province . Prinzersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1058 as Brumeslawesdorf .

Until the abolition of the lords in 1848, a large part of the place belonged to the Goldegg rule. In 1850 the local community Gerersdorf was established. In 1950 the previous cadastral communities of Prinzersdorf and Uttendorf were eliminated from the Gerersdorf community and merged into one community. Prinzersdorf's market survey took place on September 21, 1969.

Religions

The branch church "Zur Hl. Familie" has existed on site since 1966, but Prinzersdorf still belongs to the Gerersdorf-Prinzersdorf parish.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1413 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1306 inhabitants, in 1981 1199 and in 1971 1113 inhabitants.

The mayor of the market community is Rudolf Schütz, in the market community council there is a total of 19 seats after the 2020 local council election: ÖVP 13, SPÖ 5, FPÖ 1, others no seats.

Prinzersdorf is located directly on Wiener Straße B1 as well as the Westbahn with its own train station, so that the best connections to the nearby state capital St. Pölten are available.
