Population development

history

In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia . After Austria was " annexed " to the German Reich in 1938, in contrast to nearby Purkersdorf , the place was initially not attached to Greater Vienna , but assigned to the district of Sankt Pölten .

The Vienna-Umgebung district , to which Mauerbach had belonged since 1956, was dissolved on December 31, 2016. Mauerbach was originally supposed to become part of the Tulln district . After objections from citizens, Mauerbach was assigned to the St. Pölten-Land district , to which it has belonged since January 1, 2017.

Culture and sights

  • Kartause Mauerbach : The early baroque former monastery of the Carthusians is one of the most important architectural monuments of its kind in Austria. In 1984 the careful renovation by the Federal Monuments Office began , which has since also housed restoration workshops there. The Mauerbach Advent market is held there every year.
  • The former gate church of the Charterhouse next to the Kartausentor, since 1782 parish church of Mauerbach
  • Mauerbach Castle Park : In 1833 the area was cultivated under Georg Simon Freiherr von Sina and a villa was built. In 1967 this was canceled due to dilapidation. A seminar hotel and restaurant has been located on the site since 2007, where the OSCE met among others in 2017.
  • The Kaiser Franz Josef I Jubilee Elementary School. Built in 1908 according to plans by Josef Hofbauer
  • Since 2013 the market town of Mauerbach has 3 Tut gut! - hiking trails . These start at the car park of the Mauerbach Charterhouse. The tut gut also serves as a public connection - step path, which leads from the post garage / end of bus 450 around the Charterhouse. Both projects were set up by GGR Matthias Pilter in cooperation with the FVVV Mauerbach.
  • In 2018, the revitalization of the coachman's stable, which has since housed the municipal office and the local history museum, was completed.

In a hiking guide from the Biedermeier period , the work “ Vienna's Environs for Twenty Hours Around ” by Adolf Schmidl from 1835, the walks that were already popular there are mentioned:

Mauerbach is a focal point of the most charming excursions, which are particularly suitable for high summer, as you always stay in the woods. By the way, the ladies have to be reminded: never to forget your coat on a trip to Mauerbach. Apart from thunderstorms, the approach of which one does not perceive so soon in the narrow field of vision of the valley, there is always a considerable coolness after sunset which one does not find in other areas around Vienna, and one has an hour to drive before you can reach the outdoors in Mariabrunn.

Sports

  • The USC Wiesbauer Mauerbach soccer club is the largest sports club in Mauerbach. The association puts its focus on youth work. Around 150 young people play in nine youth teams. The USC Wiesbauer Mauerbach currently has no combat team because the current sports field does not have the required dimensions for the game. The women's team, which plays in the women's group Northwest Championship, plays its championship games in a neighboring municipality. Since May 2014, the USC Wiesbauer Mauerbach has also offered children from four years of age exercise opportunities in a soccer kindergarten.
  • There are two tennis clubs in Mauerbach: the SC Mauerbach Tennis and the MTC Mauerbach.
  • The Sportunion Mauerbach also offers a variety of sports opportunities.

Economy and Infrastructure

There were 140 non-agricultural workplaces in 2001 and 11 agricultural and forestry holdings according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at the place of residence was 1668. The 2001 activity rate was 51.18%. In terms of gross per capita income, Mauerbach is one of the ten richest places in Austria.
