history

The Steinbachtal has been inhabited since 1633, when a number of logging huts were built here. The old town center is at the very back of the valley, the turnoff at the Mauerbach was called the Red Cross . In 1901 there were only 8 houses with 47 residents here. At the time, an inn was built here ( Johann Rupp's Restauration , later Kreuzlwirt ), making the location a popular excursion destination.

In the interwar period, the development began as a residential area, Steinbach along the valley and Untermauerbach up the Allerheiligenberg grew rapidly. In 1937 the local church in Steinbach was built (roughly in the middle of the valley). The parish church was initially a wooden emergency church. From 1953 a parish hall was built, from 1961 the new church, at which time it received the patronage of Mary Queen . It comes from Ladislaus Hruska . 1969–1971 the rectory followed. Before the parish exposition of Mauerbach , the parish Maria Rast was founded in 1991 ( Purkersdorf dean's office , vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna ). It also includes the districts of Vienna, until 2012 also Scheiblingstein , which is now part of Weidling (Klosterneuburg Dean's Office).

Today the area belongs to the Vienna Woods Biosphere Park and on both sides of the border is a landscape protection area ( Vienna Woods and Penzing ), while the Lower Austrian part is also part of the Vienna Woods-Thermenregion European Protected Area .
