Holger Fach (born September 6, 1962 in Wuppertal ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer official.
Career as a player
society
From 1981 to 1998 he played 416 times in the Bundesliga for Fortuna Düsseldorf , Borussia Mönchengladbach , Bayer 05 Uerdingen , Bayer 04 Leverkusen and 1860 Munich . He scored 67 goals. He also completed another 27 second division games for Fortuna Düsseldorf, in which he scored four goals.
National team
Between 1988 and 1989 he played five times for the German national team , without losing any of the games. He was part of the starting XI four times and was replaced once. Fach played his first international game on August 31, 1988 in a 4-0 victory over Finland . About a year later, on September 6, 1989 against the Irish selection , he was used for the last time in the DFB team.
Career as a coach
Already during his active time as a player at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen, Fach also coached the then national division Cronenberger SC from 1992 to 1997 in his hometown of Wuppertal . After his playing career, he first trained the amateurs of Borussia Mönchengladbach and then, after a short interlude at Rot-Weiss Essen , became head coach of the Borussia professional team from September 21, 2003. There he was given leave of absence on October 27, 2004.
On June 5, 2005, Fach was introduced as the new coach of VfL Wolfsburg , and he officially took over on July 1, 2005. On December 19, 2005, he was released from his duties. Together with him, the then manager Thomas Strunz was dismissed from the club due to the "unsatisfactory sporting situation".
Fach took up his position as head coach of the second division club SC Paderborn on January 3, 2007. There he was dismissed as the coach of the bottom of the table for several weeks on February 8, 2008 together with the sporting manager Michael Born.
The FC Augsburg undertook specialist as coach 18 April 2008 as the successor to Ralf Loose preserve to the club from relegation from the 2. Bundesliga. He celebrated his debut there on April 27 with a win against FC St. Pauli . In March 2009 it was announced that Fach's involvement with Augsburg will end at the end of the 2008/09 season. But since the sporting situation continued to worsen even after the future of Fachs at FC Augsburg had been clarified, Holger Fach was given an early leave on April 13, 2009.
After terminating his contract with FC Augsburg on January 21, 2010, he signed a contract with the Kazakh first division club Lokomotive Astana , which he coached with his assistant coach Sascha Franz. With the club, Fach won the Kazakh Cup in November 2010 with a 1-0 final against Shakhtar Karagandy . After the 2011 season, Fach retired from Astana due to lung cancer.
Career as a scout and sports director
Fach worked in the areas of squad planning and scouting for Bundesliga club Darmstadt 98 from 2015 to 2016 . At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Fach took over the position of sporting director at Darmstadt 98. On December 5, 2016, the cooperation between Fach and SV Darmstadt 98 ended again. Fach showed solidarity with the previously dismissed trainer Norbert Meier and terminated the collaboration himself.
successes
At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , he won the bronze medal with the national soccer team of the Federal Republic of Germany, and was awarded the silver laurel leaf with the team. Seven years later he won the DFB Cup with Borussia Mönchengladbach . He also won the 1992 DFB Cup with Borussia ( Jörg Sievers held against Holger Fach on penalties in the final ). On November 15, 2010 Fach was the Kazakh Cup winner with locomotive Astana.
Private life
Fach's relationships with Inka Grings and Linda Bresonik were the subject of media reports in 2006.
