Edi Linser (born July 23, 1894 in Innsbruck ; † May 12, 1929 in Vienna ) was an Austrian motorcycle racer .

Career

Linser was one of the most famous motorcycle racers in his home country in the 1920s. He started in 1924 on a Sunbeam and started out in the numerous hill climbs in the vicinity of his hometown Innsbruck. He was also the first motorcyclist to drive numerous passes in the Alps , including the 2211  m slm high Penser Joch on a Sunbeam 600 SV.

Between 1924 and 1928 Linser won the Zirler hill climb five times in a row . He also came third in the Austrian Tourist Trophy in 1926 on a 500 cm³ Sunbeam and fifth in the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in 1928 .

The Tyrolean Edi Linser was killed on May 12, 1929 at the VII Austrian Tourist Trophy , which took place on the 18.1 km stretch from Breitenfurt near Vienna - Laab im Walde - Wolfsgraben . In the third lap of the 500 cm³ class race on a wet road, his Sunbeam TT90 skidded on a sloping section near Wolfsgraben and fell. He hit an iron barrier and then a tree. Linser sustained severe head injuries to which he succumbed a short time later in the Lainz hospital in Vienna .

Edi Linser is buried in Innsbruck - Wilten . A memorial stone was erected in his honor in Wolfsgraben, and a street was also named after Edi Linser there.
