William Speed ​​Lane Fox-Pitt (born January 2, 1969 in Hampstead ) is a British eventing rider .

Career

Fox-Pitt started riding at the age of four and started eventing at fifteen. With Steadfast he won the individual silver medal at the European Junior Championships in 1987 and successfully took part in the European Young Rider Championships in 1989 and 1990. Fox-Pitt competed in the Olympic Games for the first time in 1996 and has been a permanent member of the British championship teams since the 2000s. At the World Equestrian Games in 2010 he won the individual silver medal, four years later he won the individual bronze. He holds the record for most victories in the Burghley Horse Trials , winning in 1994, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011.

At the World Championships for young eventing horses in Le Lion d'Angers, William Fox-Pitt fell badly in October 2015. While his horse was unharmed, he suffered a traumatic brain injury. After he was initially placed in an artificial coma, he was able to leave the intensive care unit two weeks later. In April 2016 he was able to take part in tournaments again.

At his fifth Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 , he competed with Chilli Morning . After he was in the lead after the dressage, he (like all British riders) had to accept a double-digit number on minus points in the field. With a faultless team jumping test, the team was able to work its way up to fifth place, Fox-Pitt came twelfth in the individual competition.

Fox-Pitt is a regular Horse & Hound columnist. With a height of 1.98 meters, Fox-Pitt is considered one of the largest internationally active eventing riders.

Private

Fox-Pitt comes from an equestrian family, both his parents and his siblings are active in sports.

He attended Eton College and the University of London . William Fox-Pitt is married to Channel 4 presenter Alice Plunkett, with whom he has two sons.
