The white stallion Kolibri (* March 23, 1979 ; † 2004 ) was a stallion in the Brandenburg State Stud and Neustadt / Dosse until he died of colic at the age of 25 . He was considered one of the 20 best German production sires. He was bred by the LPG Trinwillershagen. Kolibri sired more than 1700 offspring, which together have raised a total of 2.4 million euros.

The King Line

The King line, to which Kolibri belonged, was created in 1889 in the Otersen state stud farm in Celle through the influence of the thoroughbred stallion Kingdom x x. It is mainly characterized by the frequent occurrence of molds . It almost died out in the 1950s and was only preserved by the stallion Körling, who came to Mecklenburg during the war . Nobody knew that he belonged to the K-line and so he was included in the stud book under the name "Drops" . He fathered five licensed sons, of which only Komet stood out. This was bred by Walter Schacht in Kisserow ( Röbel district ) in 1959 and was to be licensed as early as 1961. When this did not happen, he should have been castrated because castration was compulsory in the GDR . However, he was sold as a sport horse without being castrated and his achievements made him arouse the interest of the Neustadt stud management. That is why he did not get the licensing for breeding stallion until he was twelve years old. In Neustadt he became the main stallion and sired the licensed stallions Kobold I, Kobold II, Komparse, Kontakt, Kosmos I, Kosmos II. Kobold I was later employed as a state stallion in Redefin . When he got together with the mare Lorelei, Kolibri was born, which revived the King line.

The stallion Gotthard is said to be based on the frequent mold coloring of the K line . The K-line is a Hanoverian breeding line, into which Trakehner were sometimes crossed for refinement.

Life

Kolibris career began as a foal. He won the foal show in Trinwillershagen and later the licensing reserve victory in Neustadt in 1982. A year later he covered a mare for the first time. Since then, 2000 mares have been brought to him, with whom he fathered 1700 offspring. Kolibri has over 20 licensed sons and 234 daughters who are registered in the studbook ; a further 66 daughters have also been awarded state premium mares.

Famous sons of hummingbirds are e.g. B. Korsar I and II, Kolibris As, Kai, Kornfink, Kulman, Kaiserwind and King Kolibri. A very successful daughter is z. B. Little sister (up to S-jumping). The most successful are Katango, Cleopatra, Kassiopaja, Konni and Komtess; together they jumped 1.1 million euros.

An example of the value of a hummingbird offspring is King Kolibri (Kolibri × Achill Libero H), who was licensed in 2004 and then sold for 40,000 euros. This is successful in show jumping, ridden by Jos Lansink until 2011 .

Honors

In 2001, a life-size bronze statue was erected in honor of Kolibri in the Brandenburg State Stud and State Stud . The inscription of the monument on Indian granite reads simply: "Hummingbird, March 23, 1979". As a further honor, a 40 cm challenge cup in the shape of hummingbirds is given to the breeder of the best jumping young stallion at the southern German licensing on the occasion of the showcase of the best in Neustadt (Dosse) .
