Sport horse

Sport horse is a collective term for horses that are used in sporting competitions. Clearly differentiated from this are racehorses and workhorses as well as recreational horses, to which, however, there are smooth transitions.

Sports horses are those horses that are regularly used in the classic equestrian disciplines of dressage , show jumping and eventing , as well as driving sports in competitions. Typical sport horse breeds today are, for example, the Holsteiner , Hanoverian and Oldenburg horse , for whom sporting fitness - i.e. correct movement in all gaits , jumping ability, rideability, motivation and endurance - are important breeding criteria.

In contrast to this, in race horse breeding, for example, the English thoroughbred primarily counts racing successes (speed, will to win and endurance) for suitability for breeding.

However, the differentiation from horses that are ridden in leisure or down is difficult because, for example in the terrain or Western riding and competitions are organized in which the " Recreation " as a Sport horse.
