Wolfsgraben valley crossing

The valley crossing seen from the Wienerwaldsee

The Wolfsgraben valley crossing is an almost 400 m long motorway bridge on the Lower Austrian western motorway in the Vienna Woods , around 15 km west of Vienna. It is named after the nearby village of Wolfsgraben or after the 150 m deep valley that it crosses around 50 m above ground.

The valley crossing - like the entire 14 km long section 18 of the western motorway from Vienna-Auhof to Pressbaum - was opened to traffic in December 1966. The heavily used section was completely renovated in 2006 and 2008 and widened from four to six lanes. Therefore the two bridges for the one-way carriageways were rebuilt. The pillars, up to 60 m high, were preserved. The construction costs amounted to around 15 million euros.

The bridge structure, which is divided in the longitudinal direction, is five-part with an average span of 70 m. The eight pillars have cross-sections of around 8 by 2 meters.
