history
During archaeological investigations as part of the construction of a wind park by EVN in the northeast of the municipality, a 7,400 year old children's grave from the Neolithic was found. A settlement of the area in the Latène period has been proven, so one found evidence of pit houses and longhouses from this time.
In ancient times the area was part of the Roman province of Pannonia . The stone of the Leithagebirge was already mined back then. The place belonged to Austria in the Middle Ages, but then fell to Hungary (in Moson County , in the estate of Scharfeneck , in Hungarian Sárfenék), where it remained until around 1662.
During the two Turkish sieges of Vienna in 1529 and 1683, Sommerein and the surrounding areas were devastated. A large part of the population was killed or abducted.
The craft of stonemasons and bricklayers in Sommerein was part of the quarter store in the imperial quarry on Leithaberg until 1781 . Then it became part of the quarter drawer in Bruck an der Leitha on imperial orders .
