Maria-Lanzendorf (with a hyphen according to the provincial law ) is a municipality with 2179 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the district of Bruck an der Leitha in Lower Austria . The place is a Marian pilgrimage site .
geography
Maria-Lanzendorf is located south of Vienna in the industrial district on the Schwechat . The place borders directly on the community of Lanzendorf . There are no other cadastral communities apart from Maria-Lanzendorf . Neighboring communities are Lanzendorf , Himberg , Achau and Leopoldsdorf .
The area of the municipality covers only 1.69 square kilometers. 0.69 percent of the area is forested. The Wiener Neustädter Canal runs through the municipality . The Petersbach flows into the Schwechat in Maria-Lanzendorf .
history
In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia .
In 1871 Maria-Lanzendorf split off from Oberlanzendorf and formed a new community with part of Leopoldsdorf.
After Austria was annexed to the Third Reich in 1938, the place was incorporated into Greater Vienna as part of the newly created 23rd district of Schwechat . The municipality became independent again in 1954 when it was separated from Greater Vienna.
The reunification with the sister community of Lanzendorf , which a large part of the population was striving for, especially for economic reasons, failed due to resistance from one of the three parties represented in the provisional community council.
Maria-Lanzendorf was originally intended to become part of the Mödling district from January 1, 2017 after the Vienna-Umgebung district was dissolved . After objections from citizens, Maria-Lanzendorf was assigned to the Bruck an der Leitha district , to which it has belonged since January 1, 2017.
Population development
Currently (as of November 30, 2015) the municipality has only 2,104 residents and 428 secondary residences. According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 1,894 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 1,487 inhabitants, in 1981 1,107 and in 1971 1,147 inhabitants.

- Parish and pilgrimage church : The parish and pilgrimage church of Maria-Lanzendorf is extraordinarily rich in art treasures, including a. there are pictures by the baroque painter Johann Michael Rottmayr .
