history

Achau is mentioned for the first time before 1170 in a papal document for the Admont Abbey, around 1169 Duke Heinrich gives property in Achau (then called Eichowe). Wolfkerus de Aichowe is mentioned around 1177, so there is already a permanent house . The first lords of Achau are vassals of the margrave family of the Babenbergs. The owners of the Achau lordship changed very frequently in the High and Early Middle Ages; a total of 6 ruling families are known by name. With the Haiden family , which is also significant in the history of the city of Vienna, a period of splendor begins in 1447 for the rule that lasted until this noble family died out in 1599. In 1732 the Moser family from Ebenfurth with Karl Leopold Friedrich von Moser came into the possession of Achau through purchase. The Moser rule continues to our present day through female inheritance. Under the name of Suttner , this family is now the owner of Schloss and Gut Achau and, for a long time, of Ebenfurth Castle .

After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the place was incorporated into the city of Vienna to the 24th district. It was not until 1954 that the place became independent again and fell back to Lower Austria.

traffic

Achau is at the intersection of Mödlinger Straße B 11, which runs parallel to the S1 Wiener Außenring Schnellstraße and connects Mödling with Schwechat and the B16, which runs from Sopron via Eisenstadt to Vienna. Thus, the northern Vienna Basin, the city of Vienna, the Schwechat area and the Leithagebirge are easily accessible. On the other hand, it leads to an increased volume of traffic in this area, especially at peak times.
The connection to public transport is via the Pottendorfer line , which connects the place with Vienna Meidling and Wiener Neustadt every hour on working days.
