Julius Nell
Julius Nell (born May 8, 1855 in Maria Lanzendorf ; † July 27, 1917 in Vienna ) was an Austrian architect .
Life
No information is available about Julius Nell's origin, youth, education and early years of employment. From the 1890s he emerged as an architect with a number of building projects in Vienna. Since he or a family member always acted as the builder, it can be assumed that Nell was prosperous.
Nell was married and had three children, of whom the son Oskar also became an architect; the daughter Eugenia was an academic painter. Julius Nell was buried in a prominent location in Vienna's central cemetery.

Stylistically, Julius Nell was a representative of late historicism who liked to use neo-baroque forms. The rich structure of the facades is striking in his rental houses in the inner districts of Vienna. It was only very late that Nell began to embrace secessionist decorative elements when designing his buildings.
