history
In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia . A Roman road watch station, three watch towers and the Villa Rustica von Aubühlen are guaranteed.
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1149 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 1023 inhabitants, in 1981 1031 and in 1971 1037 inhabitants.

Otto Auer (ÖVP) has been the mayor of the community since 2005 , and Thomas Hebenstreit, head of the district. The ÖVP has all 19 seats in the municipal council.

In 1977 the Höflein band was founded. 30 years later, under the musical direction of Harald Eisterer and Johann Schießling, around 50 active musicians take part in around 80 outings a year.

The memorial from 1841 reads, “… the houses, which for the most part are made of clay or burnt bricks and are roofed with reed and straw . In recent times, however, the fairly well-off residents have been getting the necessary stones from the quarries in the village of the same name in Hungary, Kaisersteinbruch . And when it is used, most of it is made of solid bricks ... ”.

- In the state-wide competition "Club-friendly municipality", the municipality Höflein achieved the rank of "Most club-friendly municipality in the Bruck / L district" in 2007. On September 13, 2007 the award ceremony took place in the Lower Austrian state parliament hall by Governor Erwin Pröll .
Viticulture
Höflein is an old, traditional wine village in the middle of the Arbesthal hill country. The Celts already cultivated their vineyards in this region. The Romans cultivated their vines along the Roman road network and the Amber Road that connected Rome to the legionary camps and forts on the Limes. Höflein was important in the wine industry from an early age.
In the 11th century, documented evidence, wine from Höflein was delivered to the newly founded Göttweig Abbey . In the document “Unterösterreichischen Land Compass” 1673, by Stephanus Sixey, Höflein receives the title “from the best”.
Today Höflein is one of the largest wine-growing areas in the Carnuntum wine-growing region . Around 180 hectares of vineyards are cultivated by 140 families. 16 families run a wine tavern .
In the sunny Höflein, which is lined with vineyards, there are five cellar lanes with their cellars built deep into the slope. Their even temperature of eight to ten degrees ensures that the wine matures perfectly.
Economy and Infrastructure
In 2001 there were 32 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry operations 99 according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment in the place of residence was 555. The 2001 participation rate was 50.04%. There were 44 unemployed people on average in 2003.
