Sissy Roth-Halvax

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sissy Roth-Halvax (born September 2, 1946 in Vienna ; † August 21, 2009 in Maria-Lanzendorf ; born Elisabeth Krasser ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Roth-Halvax graduated from elementary school in Vienna from 1952 to 1956 , then was a student at a secondary school for four years, between 1956 and 1960, and switched to a grammar school in 1962 , which she left after two years.

She then began a two-year training course at a hotel management school and then worked for around a year, from 1964 to 1965, as a receptionist at the Hotel Am Stephansplatz . In 1965 she accepted a job at the Austrian Tourist Office and soon became head of the personnel department and personnel development at Austria Trend Hotels . Until the year 2000, 24 hotels with around 1000 employees were under her control.

Roth-Halvax's political career began in 1990 when she was appointed deputy chairwoman of the Association of Municipal Representatives (GVV) for the Vienna-area district. In the same year she was elected to the board of the Lower Austrian GVV.

In 1998 she was elected to the Lower Austrian state parliament as an ÖVP member, an office she held until 2003. In 2000 she successfully ran for the office of mayor of Maria-Lanzendorf, which she held until her death.

From April 2003 to April 2008 she was a member of the Austrian Federal Council , and in the first half of 2006 she was its President. Roth-Halvax made headlines when she and her colleague Michaela Gansterer (ÖVP) physically disturbed Federal Councilor John Gudenus during a vote on April 14, 2005 by pressing down his arm, which was raised for the vote, but this did not quite succeed. The yes vote of Gudenus was counted, the new election proposal of the opposition received a majority (which, however, remained without constitutional consequences).

Sissy Roth-Halvax was the mother of two children and died on August 21, 2009 after a long and serious illness.
