Gottfried Kneifel
Gottfried Kneifel (born June 25, 1948 in Linz ) is an Austrian journalist and politician . Kneifel was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 2000 to 2016 and during this time he was President of the second Austrian Chamber of Parliament three times .
Life and education
Kneifel, son of Ennser town and community physician Herbert Kneifel , graduated in 1967 at Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster and subsequently studied at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz law . He was trained as a journalist in the teaching staff of the press department of the Upper Austria Chamber of Commerce . From 1978 he was press officer of the ÖVP Upper Austria in Linz and from 1988 to 1990 head of the public relations department of the federal party leadership of the ÖVP in Vienna. Kneifel is the father of two daughters and two sons from his first marriage and is married to Monika Kernecker for the second time.
Political career
Kneifel came into politics through his father, who was Deputy Mayor of Enns from 1955 to 1961 . From 1973 to 2003 Kneifel was a councilor for the city of Enns, from 1985 he was an economic councilor and from 1995 to 2002 deputy mayor and city party chairman of the ÖVP.
Kneifel has been director of the Upper Austrian Economic Association since 1991 and honorary chairman of the supervisory board of EHG Ennshafen GmbH , Enns, since 1998 .
From the year 2000 he was sent by the Upper Austrian Landtag for the ÖVP Upper Austria to the Austrian Federal Council . In his 16-year time as a member of the Federal Council, Kneifel was its President three times, namely from July 1 to December 31, 2006, from January 1 to June 30, 2011 and from July 1 to December 31, 2015 He was also a member of numerous committees, was chairman of the standing joint committee within the meaning of the Financial Constitutional Law 1948 and temporarily chairman of the EU committee of the Federal Council. From April 15, 2009 he was also chairman of the parliamentary group of the parliamentary club of the ÖVP . On June 30, 2016, Gottfried Kneifel finally resigned from the Federal Council, with the Upper Austrian Landtag appointed Robert Seeber as his successor.
