He wrote numerous articles for the club newspaper and scientific publication series "Mitteilungen des Museumsverein Enns - Lauriacum", which he founded. He has been an honorary member since 1978 and honorary chairman of the association since 2002.
Little by little it was possible to win the old town hall of Enns entirely for exhibition purposes. The stately Roman museum Lauriacum was built from a four-room archive with the support of the city of Enns and tireless personal commitment . It is one of the oldest private museums in Austria and the sponsoring association has 600 members.
1978 to 1981 the museum was completely renovated and in 1982 the Upper Austrian provincial exhibition "Severin between Roman times and the migration of peoples" was held there. In 1986 the memorial exhibition "800 Years of Georgenberger Handfeste" followed.
Kneifel performed his work in the service of culture and science in the city of Enns and in the Linz-Land district on a voluntary basis, after his retirement as a general practitioner in almost full-time work for the museum and city archive and was awarded several times for this.
