The collection, redesigned for the Upper Austrian Provincial Exhibition 2018, enables a journey of discovery into the Roman past with over 1200 finds, reconstructions and media stations.

history

The museum was founded as the third Upper Austrian museum after the State Museum and the Hallstatt Museum in 1892. The first publicly accessible exhibition room was a room in the Schlossmeierhof at Maria Anger No. 1. This room was given up in 1898 after moving to the old council chamber at No. 19 main square.

Museum building

Behind the baroque five-axis facade with the curved gable hides a building of a town hall from the late Gothic period. The house is a gift from Emperor Friedrich III. to the city of Enns. The stone frames of the gate, the windows and the gable are elements from the Renaissance. The arcades in the courtyard are marked 1547. The former council chamber on the first floor is adorned with a stucco ceiling that was built between 1720 and 1730.
